behold: the finale

Throughout the whole year, thick and thin, wet and dry, good and bad, hard and easy, if I have learned one thing, it would be how to write a good gosh darn blog. From Great Expectations all the way back to them Importance of Being Ernest days I've been bloggin'. The meaning of all these blogs I believe would be to show a students comprehension to the lessons being taught in class, whether it be poetry, rhyme scheme, themes, or anything along those lines, the blog always ends up refering to one of those things to show the students comprehension towards them. the significance of this whole blog deal, I think, would be to practice the lessons learned in class and to have an idea of what to expect in the future. One thing I think that was really good about blogs was the fact that they were completely different from all the other homework that i received in not only English but any other classes as well. With the blog we at home on the computer doing homework. One thing that could have been improved was NOTHING!!! BLOGS ARE AWESOME!!! With out these wonderful blogs, learning in english may have been much slower and compreension of the lessons may have not been fully developed leaving the year unfinished. An example of the enhancement of a students learning could be myself and the essayist blog. There, I show how I've learned the proper techniques for writing a flawless essay and it turns out, after practicingg and really learing the deep meaning and skill of essay writing, I was able to reel in a nice fat juicy A on my essay really showing how practice makes perfect. Another example of how the bolgs enhanced the comprehension to lesson in class was when the blog was about Great Expectations and things we didn't understand. With that blog, students were able to share ideas on tricky reading sections in the novel and overall come to an understandment and get a further comprehension of the book. Another example of a blog that really played a part in the class work that we did was the skit blog. In that blog, we were able to all brainstorm on different ideas leading to the final choices of what skits were to be acted out. In the end of that section, Kasey, Sam and I were able to come up with a great skit that ended up getting us the teachers award for the most original and well written script. One more example of a really really great blog idea was the blog about the team essays. This allowed the groups to collaborate and share ideas of what they were doing on their part for the essay. A final example of great blog ideas was the poem critique. This was a good blog because it was variety from most of the other ones and good practice for the Poetry Outloud competition. This really helped on poise during the competition leading me to get 5th place, and just like Shakespeare said, "Be great in act, just like you have been in thought."-William Shakespeare

Behold: essayist

At the beginning of this wonderful year, I felt very weak in the area of essay writing. I was unsure on all aspects of it, literary analysis, all that jazz. As the year progressed and we worked on analyzing literature, as well as writing some assisted essays, I felt my skills grow stronger and I could comprehend things I would have never imagined comprehending back then. I learned the purpose of essays was to express your opinion and feelings on a topic and really prove a point about it, whether it be about nature, cars, the best food in the world, anything, as long as there was a point proven. The rewards of all the essay writing was a developed skill in analyzing literature, and a way to get comfortable with your writing.
According to the rubric, my paper and just my writing may in to a high "B" range because the weakest point in my writing skills is transitions. Transitions are key to essays and without them, the essay may become very weak. As well as no transitions my papers often are bountiful with errors, whether it be speeling... just kidding spelling or grammar. If I continue to work on these flaws in my writing and get them down, I believe I will have many "A" papers.

behold summer readin'

This summer, there are two particular books I intend to read. he first book I want to read is, The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexander Dumas. For the summer assignment for 9th grade I almost read that book but got dicouraged by its mammoth of a number of pages, where I decided to read Catcher in the Rye instead. I want to read The Count of Monte Cristo because it seems like it would have lots of suspense action and it'd be a great way to learn about the times back then. The second book I want to read is, This is Your Brain on Music. This is more of a written documentary than a book but it seemed very interesting to me. I started it in seventh grade but my reading level was not mature enough to finish it so now I hope to come back to it with a vengence and learn about the neurological effects of music on the brain. Both these titles are on my summer reading list because they both have something I could learn so i wouldn't just be brain dead the whole summer and both of them seem very interesting. Well... theres my list. peace out

behold all that jazz

Well, I've got to say that English... honors English... with Mrs. Gilman... in room 501... has been pretty......... BOSS!. Despite all the oral presentations, and and Max's bad jokes, I think it's pretty fair to say that I have thoroughly......... very thoroughly.......... enjoyed being in honors english. Basically, the highlights were definitely pie, just pie. I like pie. Some lowlights were probably reading the poetry outloud and any other oral presentations because my voice cracks a boatload...... no me gusta. The people in the class for sure make it a much better time with all the jokes. By the way I just invented a new word for oral presesntations: presentorals.
It is one word and I did a great job.
P.S. are we aloud to ask for extra credit over blogging or do we still get docked points??????? I would actually like a response to this on monday please, or sometime this upcoming week.
P.S.2. Can you tell this is me... Quinn... one of your students... in our class... in room 501??

behold skits

Three parts in the novel I would like to see become skits are first, when Magwitch reveals who he is to Pip in Pip's house/lodging. This is a good part but there are limited parts for people to play. Another part, is the case of Jaggers when Jaggers is defending Molly for the murder. This is also a good part but sort of limited although people could play the people in the jury. One last part for a skit could be when Pip meets Miss Havisham for the first time in her manor. This is a good part because the acting could be really funny(Havisham) but then again there would be very limited parts

behold another question

This week, I became confused with a certain character who is still unidentified to me. He was the man in the corner of Pip's lodging, hidden in the shadows, who Pip tripped over. This is when Abel, or "Provis," is at Pip's lodging as well. This occurs on page 326 at the first page of chapter 40. Thank you

behold the question about great expectations

There were two questions I came across. One, was who was the Avenging Phantom, this was answered. The second question I came across was who is Mr. Waldengarver. I was confused about this because the narrations were talking about Wopsle, and what Woplse was doing, then all of a sudden out of the blue there is this Mr. Waldengarver. I was very confused at this point. "We made all the haste we could downstairs, but we were not quick enough either. Standing at the door was a Jewish an with an unnatural heavy smear of eyebrow, who caught my eyes as we advanced, and said, when we came up with him: "Mr. Pip and friend?" Identity of Mr. Pip and friend confessed. "Mr. Waldengarver," said the man, "would be glad to have the honour." page 256 chapter 31 This part confused me because suddenly Woplse (I thought) disappeared and this new man, Mr. Waldengarver, had appeared out of the blue.

Behold: geat expectations

When Pip says this, he refers to all the good and bad things and experiences that occured in that one day. From high to low, thick to thin, small to large, Pip encountered very good things but also very bad things hence when Pip says the "flowers" part of the quote he means all the good things, and when he says the "thorns" part he refers to all the bad things that can happen.
A day I can relate to this is one day, everything had been going good. I was doing good at activities, having fun and I felt great. Then... that night, when I was at a party with my friends, at centenial, it happened. I was running on this ledge when all of a sudden i smashed my head into the slowing descending ceiling. I ended up with three staples in my head and an everlasting scar.

essay

yo, Walker and Sam, this is a shout out to my homies.
for my first concrete detail, I wrote how reverend Chasuble and miss Prism both have seroius jobs that there is no horse play in so people expect them to be all formal (social standard). for the commentary I wrote when Cecily tries to invite Chasuble on a walk with miss Prism but she says she has to teach. For how their true love prevails is how Chasuble still flirts by saying he would hang on to every worrd of her lips then tries covering it up for it by saing it was a metaphor.
For the second cooncrete detail, i stated how both Chasuble and Prism are of working class citizens and are not super rich to have enough money to do whatever they wish. Commentary for this was how Chhasuble and Prism walk and Prism talks about how working men shouldnt be single and how there are regulations but for the rich, they have all the money to do whatever they wish. Also i stated that jsut becasue they arent rich, it dooesnt mean they cant flirt and still be happy together despite the social expectations. The third concrete detail was how Chasuble and Prism arent expected to be together and like eachother because they are both sincere and rather "squares". Commentary consisted of when Prism chatises Jack's bunburying friend for living onlu for pleasure and Chasuble wants only to christen and read sermons showing how they are both all business and think bad of "fun". How their love prevails is how they still keep making little flirtatious moves to keep the fire going. yupppp basically that is what i got

behold the resol

This year, my resolution is to be a climbing resolution where I will set goals and achieve them. This goal goes through out the whole year not just a sports season. Currently, I am weak and need training but over time i will achieve my goals. Right now I am at a stage known as a V5 climber. The V is a rating sytem. The pros climb V15. My goal is 2 V7's by the end of the year as well as 5 V6's.
To achieve these goals i will be going into the climbing ggym downtown 4-5 times a week to improve strength and endurance as well as technique and balance. My training will include pull-ups lock-offs and other work outs to increase strength etc. As next october, november, and december appoach many competitions will come up that I will enter. This will be a good way to gauge how far I've come along. In conclusion I must send V6's and V7's
