behold another question

This week, I became confused with a certain character who is still unidentified to me. He was the man in the corner of Pip's lodging, hidden in the shadows, who Pip tripped over. This is when Abel, or "Provis," is at Pip's lodging as well. This occurs on page 326 at the first page of chapter 40. Thank you

It doesn't say who the unknown stranger who Pip tripped over was, but that the watchman could not recall anyone who had not left after they came in that night and that the stranger was on the stairs. The watchman thought that the stranger had come in with his uncle so maybe it's foreshadowing.
